International Conference “Strategic Security Environment: Challenges and Trends”

CHIŞINĂU, May 18, 2017 – During May 17-19, the Armed Forces Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun” holds the International Conference “Strategic Security Environment: Challenges and Trends” at the National Army Military History and Culture Centre.

Attending the event, Deputy Defence Minister Gheorghe Galbura said that the international scientific manifestation has already become a welcomed and expected tradition, organized annually by the Centre for Strategic Defence Studies and Security (CSSAS) of the institution, noting that the particularities of the regional security system must be seen in terms of the complementarity of security and defence concepts, which are two indissoluble linked notions, in an indivisible relationship.

During the international scientific meeting, Gheorghe Balan, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, sent the participants a greeting message, mentioning the importance of organizing the international scientific manifestation on the topic of national security and defence. In the same context, referring to the current situation of the regional security environment, Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need to implement a considerable reform in the field of national defence and security, taking into account the new context of the regional security environment, because a reformed army will ensure the stability, Sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.

Also, Steve Young, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Republic of  Moldova, during the inaugural meeting, stressed the importance of organizing an event dedicated to addressing security and defence issues in a scientific, academic context.

According to the interim commandant (rector) of the Armed Forces Military Academy, colonel Gheorghe Ţurcanu, the promotion and application of the scientific researches related to the national security and defence can only be achieved through a joint effort and a high degree of co-operation between the institutions research in the country and abroad.

The conference was attended by representatives of the academic and scientific environment of the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Germany, Bulgaria and Hungary, and the main topics  are: strategic interdisciplinary defence and security research in the context of national security, The impact of the crisis in Ukraine on the security of the Republic of Moldova, the danger of separatism at the eastern border of the European Union as well as other topics of interest, etc.

The International Conference “Security Strategic Environment: Challenges and Trends” is organized annually by the Centre for Defence and Security Strategic Studies (CSSAS) of the Armed Forces Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun”.
