National Army militaries trained in dismantling and destruction of expired ammunition

CHISINAU, on the 12th of July – The graduates of the course regarding the technology of dismantling and destruction expired ammunition in the National Army endowment got diplomas in the Military Academy of the Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun”. The course took part from the 9th of July till the 11th of July as a part of a project implemented jointly with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

 During the ceremony, Colonel Andrei Şarban, deputy chief of the General Staff of the National Army for providing resources, said that “Due to the courses organized by foreign experts, our militaries are improving their capabilities in the field of destruction of expired munitions, so as always to be prepared to act correctly and safely in dismantling dangerous munitions.”

            In his turn, the expert for the ICRC ammunition, Colin King, said “The course was short but an intensive one. I am glad that Moldovan soldiers demonstrated ambition and dedication during the learning process, for which I congratulate them.”

According to the head of arms and ammunition section of the Logistic Command, major Andrei Camerzan, the course has a positive impact on the safety of civilians and military personnel.

The training course was attended by 12 militaries of the National Army who are intended to be involved in the dismantling of ammunitions and their further destruction.

The project is held in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed on the  24th of April, 2013, between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Moldova and the ICRC regarding the destroying the stockpiles of expired ammunitions from the National Army endowment. This project will be implemented by the end of September 2013.

The project is planned to destroy approximately 50 tons of dangerous expired ammunitions.
